It is time to apply for the Franklin Township Public Library’s 2015 Reading Buddies Program. This 6-week program takes place Monday evenings, at the Main Library in the Children’s Department (July 6 – August 10). Reading Buddies is a social program that promotes literacy through paired reading. Teens earn volunteer credit by helping young readers develop confidence in their reading and comprehension skills. Paired one hour reading sessions allow teens the opportunity to become mentors, and young readers the chance to make new friends while reading.
Applications are available now, but space is limited and participants are accepted on a first come, first serve bases.
Teen Buddies
- Teen Buddies applications are available at the Adult Reference Desk
- Teens entering 8th grade through 12th grade are eligible to apply to become volunteer Teen Buddies.
- Teens MUST attend one of the training sessions prior to the start of the program:
- Sunday, June 14th at 2:30 pm OR Tuesday, June 16th at 7 pm.
- Teens MUST commit to attend at least FOUR sessions. They may attend more if they are available.
- Monday evenings at the Main Library – Children’s Department (July 6th – August 10th).
- Sessions are either 6 – 7 pm or 7 – 8 pm.
- Completed Teen Buddies applications are to be returned to the Adult Reference Desk.
Little Buddies
- (Little Buddies applications are available at the Adult Reference Desk)
- Children who are independent readers, entering 1st grade through 4th grade are eligible to apply to becomeLittle Buddies
- Parents MUST commit to attend at least FOUR sessions. Children may attend more if they are available.
- Monday evenings at the Main Library – Children’s Department (July 6th – August 10th).
- Sessions are either 6 – 7pm or 7 – 8pm.
- Parents MUST remain in the Children’s Department area during the sessions.
- Little Buddies are welcome to bring their own books to read. However, an assortment of books will be provided for them to use during the sessions.
- Completed Little Buddies applications are to be returned to the Adult Reference Desk.
The deadline for ALL applications is Sunday, June 7, 2015
All accepted applicants will be notified by June 8th.
**Please note that this is NOT part of the Library’s Summer Reading Program (SRP)!Those enrolled in Reading Buddies are welcome to ALSO join our Summer Reading Program.
Participants in the Summer Reading Program receive prizes for all logged pages or hours of reading done during June 15 – August 31.
Little Buddies may log their Reading Buddies hours for SRP credit, and ALL school reading counts as well!!
