Weekend Fun: Let It Snow(man)!
Snow man or snow woman or snow child? You decide! Although it’s the fall season until December 21 at 10:59 a.m., people are asking for winter crafts – so let it snow (on paper, anyway)!
The Winter Reading Program “Reading Is Snow Much Fun” begins on December 20, just in time for the first day of winter. Watch for details coming on the website soon!

How to Make a Paper Snowman
Whether you make a snow child, a snow woman, or a snowman, the basic steps are the same.
What you need:
- 1 sheet computer paper
- 1 piece cardstock or cardboard
- scrap paper
- glue stick
- scissors
- markers (optional)
What you do:
- Cut eight 1-inch strips lengthwise from the computer paper.
- Trim approx. 2 inches from four of the strips.
- Separate the shorter strips from the longer strips.
- Working with the shorter strips, put a dab of glue on one end of the first strip. (see photo 1 below)
- Make a loop and stick the other end of the strip onto the glue. (see photo 2 below)
- Take another short strip and put a dab of glue on each end.
- Stick one end below the first strip loop so that it crisscrosses, then rub to help it stick. (photo 3 below)
- Bring the other end over the top of the loop and stick it to the bottom. (photo 4 below)
- Repeat steps 6 – 9 with the two remaining strips, placing them in the spaces between the crisscross.
- You have finished the snowball for the head!
- Repeat steps 4 through 9 with the longer strips to make the snowman’s body.
- Glue the smaller snowball on top of the larger one to make the snowman.
- Cut a circle approx. 6 inches in diameter from the cardstock or cardboard. It helps if you find something round to trace, but you can draw a freestyle circle and cut it out. It doesn’t have to be perfectly round.
- Apply glue the center of the circle and stick the snowman onto the circle.
- Use the scrap paper to cut out buttons, a nose, hat, etc., and glue them onto the snow person.
- Optional: Use markers to draw additional details.
- Crumple scraps of computer paper into tiny balls and glue onto the circle.
Use the snowman as a table centerpiece at your family dinners!
