The winner for the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature has been announced! While not exactly a household name in the United States, Abdulrazak Gurnah, a Zanzibar-born British writer and university professor, has taken home the prestigious award this year. The Nobel Prize committee chose Gurnah “for his uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents” (Source). While his most recent novel, Afterlives, is not widely available in the U.S. yet, you can check out Gravel Heart (2017) at the library today.
