One of our annual craft programs at the Library is the Spring Egg Collage. Why not make yours at home and hang it in your window as a lovely sign of spring?
You will need:
Paper – white or light-colored cardstock is best, but you can use computer paper or even cut up a cereal box.
An oval shape to trace – if you can’t find an oval, use something round and just trace the bottom, then extend the lines at the top so that they taper slightly inward.
Scissors – to cut out the oval and trim some of the collage paper.
Glue – I love working with a gluestick but any kind of glue will work. If it’s thick glue, add a little water to thin it.
Scrap paper – any kind of paper in any colors you choose! Junk mail, old magazines, wrapping paper saved from gifts, scrapbook paper, gel press prints – find a variety.
What to do:
Trace and cut out the oval shape.
Apply glue to the surface and randomly stick bits and pieces of paper over the glue. Apply more glue and repeat as needed until either the egg is covered or you are satisfied with the design you created.
Add a focal point to add interest: A picture cut from an old magazine, the logo from packaging, a photo of you or your pet, or a drawing that you made and cut out.
Hang your creation in a window so everyone walking by can admire it!
