“Poetry is an espresso shot of thought…” -Daljit Nagra
April is National Poetry Month! Started in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets, the month is set aside to recognize the importance of poetry in everyday life and promote awareness and appreciation of the medium. Since its founding, National Poetry Month has grown into one of the largest literary celebrations in the world! To celebrate, the library has put together a book display featuring works by some of the most prominent contemporary poets, as well as a few timeless ones. Scroll through the titles below to see what’s in the display!

We couldn’t write a post about National Poetry Month without also mentioning two giants of the poetry world who passed away this year: Mary Oliver (left) and W.S. Merwin (right). Both poets are featured prominently in our display, so if you’re unfamiliar with their work now is the time to dive in!
Thanks for reading! We hope you can find time to slow down and enjoy poetry today!
