The Franklin Township Cable Advisory TV Committee (CATV) is looking for residents’ opinion about their cable service.
Franklin’s franchise agreement with Comcast expires December 11, 2014, and the township is currently in the ascertainment period. The results of the survey will be used in the Township Council’s preparation for the New Jersey Office on Cable television (OCTV)-required Municipal Report and negotiations.
While there is a franchise agreement in place, the contracts are between the resident and the cable provider. The Township has no authority to negotiate these individual contracts or settle disputes. The rates charged by each company are regulated in accordance with the rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and OCTV.
However, there are some points which can be negotiated, and it is for that reason that residents’ input is so important.
Verizon’s franchise agreement is with the State of New Jersey and will not be part of the negotiations. Franklin has no jurisdiction and cannot require Verizon to expand their service into new areas of the Township.
