Genre Picks: July 24, 2012

This is a light release week and I’ve only managed to find two titles, both mysteries, I consider worth pointing out.

The Thing About Thugs
The Thing About Thugs
The Thing About Thugs by Tabish Khair is the author’s US debut, and the novel is a unique blend of mystery and history. The story takes place in Victorian London and follows Amir Ali who has emigrated to take part in phrenological research. Ali, a member of the Thugee cult (or so he has told people), must soon prove his innocence as a series of murders occurs in the city.

Buried on Avenue B
Buried on Avenue B
Buried on Avenue B is the second novel by frequent James Patterson collaborator Peter de Jonge. It sees the return of NYPD Homicide Detective Darlene O’hara who was last seen in 2009’s Shadows Still Remain. This time out O’hara is tasked with finding the killer of a 10-year-old boy whose body was recently uncovered. de Jong is definitely an author to watch. A sample from Buried on Avenue B is available here.
